What to do after an auto accident:

1) After an auto accident or car wreck, call an ambulance, or go to your family doctor immediately after the accident. It is very common that you might not “feel” hurt at the scene due to shock. You will probably begin to get stiff and sore in the hours and days following the accident. At least go to the ER or your doctor to get checked out. Call us if you need assistance in finding a doctor

2) Call the police, tell them there was a car wreck with injuries, and insist they come out and write a report. The police report may be vital to helping you prove your case later. The police will not come out unless you tell them someone was injured in the accident

3) Take pictures of the auto accident scene, vehicles, and other driver. (Carry a disposable camera in your car's glove box, right next to this checklist, for this purpose)

4) Except to get the information below, do not talk to the other driver, and make no admissions or apologies for the accident

5) Get names and telephone numbers of any witnesses to the accident

6) Call Street & Ragsdale as soon as you are able

7) DO NOT GIVE A STATEMENT TO THE AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY! Let us do the talking for you. It is NEVER to your advantage to give a statement to a car insurance company

After an auto accident, get these facts:

1) Date and time of the auto accident

2) Exact location of the accident (street, intersection, city, county)

3) Other driver’s name, address, & DL #

4) Car insurance company & your policy number

5) Name & address of owner of other car (if different from driver)

6) Owner’s car insurance company & policy number

7) Make, model and tag of the other car involved in the accident

8) The name, number and address of any witness to the wreck

9) Note anything unusual about the accident
